zombie question

Can zombies see in the dark or do they just shamble to noise? I had a daydream, I guess, where I was in the dark forest and could hear low moans of zombies nearby and wondered if I stayed covered by the darkness would they find me? Or should I turn on a flashlight and start stepping over crunchy leaves which would inevitably draw their attention to me? In any movie I've ever seen the zombies are attracted to screaming or crashes or loud noises of sorts. They could be able to see as normal humans see so in a dark forest no one, you or the zombies, have any sort of advantage. UNLESS...they use their moaning as biosonar or echolocation like bats, dolphins, whales and some humans. But why would they gain any powers for being dead? Honestly where do I come up with this stuff?

OH right, my ideas may stem from the book that I'm reading, called FEED, not to be confused with the 2005 movie of the same name about a cybercrime investigator who tracks a man suspected of force-feeding women to death. The book was written in 2010 by Mira Grant, the website is pretty cool too. Here's the back of the book (there are two books so far, this is the first one):

"The year was 2014. We had cured cancer. We had beat the common cold. But in doing so we created something new, something terrible that no one could stop. The infection spread, virus blocks taking over bodies and minds with one, unstoppable command: FEED.

NOW, twenty years after the Rising, Georgia and Shaun Mason are on the trail of the biggest story of their lives-the dark conspiracy behind the infected. The truth will out, even if it kills them."

I also will be watching AHH! Zombies!! (2007) later today. It's apparently a zombie comedy that switches back and forth between the zombie's perspective and the human's perspective. Actually, my boyfriend had seen it on netflix before me...and liked it enough to buy it. Heh heh I may be rubbing off on him. =)

Remake: Halloween

This is the age of remakes. From musicals to action movies to horror films there's most likely going to be a remake in the next 2 years (before the world ends and all). Remakes can be horrible, they can resurrect a series and give the original another shot at the box office, or they can reinvent the series altogether by using the same concepts while adding to them greatly.  Speaking of the latter, I finally got around to watching Rob Zombie's remake of Halloween and its sequel. Don't get me wrong, I thoroughly enjoyed John Carpenter's original Halloween  (1978) with Jamie Lee Curtis (she rocks my horror world; her and Sigourney Weaver are among the top horror ladies in my book).

Zombie outdid himself and basically re-imagined this series based along the lines of the original. You see some of Michael's back story in the original which is then elaborated on in the remake. From a young boy Michael was abused mentally and physically by family members and bullies. The amount that he suffered he then passes on to his victims it seems like. After 17 or so years in isolation basically, the anger builds up.  He grows into his 'boogeyman' mask. The dvd shows some deleted scenes and to my knowledge there was a killing that wasn't addressed in the movie but is addressed using a picture in a deleted scene. So it shouldn't have been deleted.

The sequel is very freaky with a dash of disturbing and terrifying, reminded me of The Cell with Jennifer Lopez, if you've ever seen that.  I couldn't tell who was dead or when, I had to back it up. It's a little bit mind boggling to say the least.

**Spoiler Alert** Don't continue if you haven't seen it because this is a scene in the movie that I will be describing to make my point...if there is a point.

Still of Tyler Mane and Kristina Klebe in Halloween

In the sequel...I was so excited after watching the scene when the two perverted guys (I think they are cops) are taking Michael away in the van to the morgue because he's dead. It's a horror movie and we all know he's going to get up and crash the van and whatnot. But is that what happens directly? Hell no, it's brilliant though, I love it. It was one of my favorite scenes. They are driving down a back highway, flat farmland all around them and they are conversing and being perverted. The passenger looks up and goes "cow!" and the van smashes into the cow. They are a mess. The driver seems to be dead or at least unconscious and the passenger is screaming for help covered in glass and blood running down his face. Of course this is a good time for Michael to wake up. It's a good lead in without being too predictable.

**/Spoiler Alert**

The two movies as a whole were horrific in a good way. I mean, the guy doesn't talk for one thing, says nothing, just points like a cavemen but he listens and he remembers anything you say and will choke you with your own words, literally. And is he so angry that he can take like 5 bullets and not die? When did he get super powers? That's scary as hell. Everyone has a weakness, right? You would think. But this isn't a movie about good and evil really. He's not evil per se, he was biding his time to get revenge and nothing or no one will stop him from this task. The character is determined, I'll give him that. This guy is a tank. Usually when I watch horror movies I try and think of ways to escape or not get into a certain situation, but even as a little kid Michael got to you while you were asleep (because he watched horror movies). That probably contributed. He knew your weakness or got you when you were the most vulnerable (usually naked after sex). Sometimes he waits patiently until one leaves and picks you off one by one but he's a big dude so he doesn't have to wait. As seen in a scene in the first Halloween when the two teenagers are making out he just grabs the boy on top...he was done waiting I guess. You just don't know what to expect.

Moral of the story...It's ALWAYS the quiet ones.

Xombies In Comics

I've always liked the idea of anyone vs. zombies. It will probably get out of hand like everything else but for now, it's been a fun ride.

Marvel had comic books (Marvel Zombies) which was a different take on it. If you've never read them, I won't give anything away, let's just say it affects superheroes differently. Then in like a spin-off I guess, there was Marvel Zombies vs. Army of Darkness. Army of Darkness (or Evil Dead III) was a hilarious movie that starred Bruce Campbell (Ash Williams) who played in the previous Evil Dead's. It got out of hand in a humorous way  from the first two Evil Dead's because he went back in time...but there was still demons involved. Anyway, the comic has him intertwined in the Marvel universe with his chainsaw and 'buffoonery'. Alternate realities collide in both comics. It's pretty neat.

Of course The Walking Dead, which I doubt anyone outside the comic world new existed before the AMC series came out in October, buuut, they know now. Also, I loved the series for the short 1st season (6 episodes) and I cannot wait for the 2nd season to start this October. It was a hit.

Besides the popular comics out there, there have been numerous fan comics. One I just got the chance to read is Scott Pilgrim Vs. The Walking Dead which if you've never seen Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World you may not get some of the jokes. It was a fantastic gaming based movie which you should watch (peer pressure) and then read this comic. It has all the quirks found in the movie. =)

And if you have ever played the Left4Dead games for the PC or Xbox and wondered how it all started and some backstory, read The Sacrifice. How did the zombie virus start? How did these 4 come together? What are their backstories? How does the virus spread? Are they immune? Don't they bit you in the game? Yeah, that's some of the questions I was thinking while playing the game. I have to know! Not like it wasn't enjoyable without knowing all of the details. The not knowing might have made it that much better, actually.

All of a sudden I just had to post this. I get in zombie moods soo, that's when I usually think of something. Next time...Xombie Art!

Questions About Zombies #1

***What happens if they can't get human flesh to eat? They can't starve to death - they are already dead. (question posed by Rajesh Koothrappali in the Big Bang Theory)***

When a human being is hungry, they eat to sustain themselves. Zombies will always eat because they are driven by their hunger and when no human flesh or organs are available to them, because after awhile there just isn't any left, it will seem like they are starving and dying out. The fact is, well my assumption based on movies, when corpses are reanimated they start decomposing from that point even further. No matter if there is an infinite supply of food for zombies to feed, zombies will NOT be able to continue to 'live'. The only thing that drives zombies to crawl, walk, hobble, or drag themselves with one arm is their insatiable hunger. After awhile, even if food is available to them, they will decompose. Basically, I am clarifying that zombies don't starve to death, they decompose to a further and final death.
---------------------------------------------------------------------

In response to my own response, based on my logic (if you want to call it that) it would be beneficial if apocalypse's went according to plan. What I mean is, you've seen movies where they try and quarantine the outbreak and shoot anyone that even acts like a zombie. 28 Days Later, 28 Weeks Later, Land of the Dead, etc. ALOT of them. But they all try and keep zombies out so everyone that is healthy is in one central location. The problem with this is, when one zombie breaks down the door and bites a guard or someone inside that really doesn't know what's going on because they aren't informed the whole plan is shot to shit. Then you have the army on the rooftops shooting everything that moves.

Information is the key. If a small scale outbreak of a virus happens or some kid was gnawing on another slower kid in the streets we have a right to know! There is Twitter, Facebook, Youtube, all kinds of messaging -- inform the masses! Especially the masses with guns. YES, I am contributing to violence against stenches. When shit goes down, find the rednecks with guns! Good golly gee. Don't herd everyone into a central location like you are helping, it makes the situation worse when the control shifts, because when people get together in a mass and nobody knows what's going on they turn into animals. Like how one elephant out of the bunch gets spooked, they all trumpet and stampede and kill everything by stepping on them.

So once we know, then what? Land of the Dead took it a step farther. They had a central location surrounded by water. Smart, neh? Well zombies don't have to breathe so once they figured out they could walk on the bottom in the water to the other side, it was all over. Granted George Romero movies have a spin to zombie portrayal--they watch and learn. You would think that once the brain has died, maybe just leaving the brain stem for movement, that all other thoughts besides 'eat' would be non-existent. Still GREAT movies if you haven't had a chance to view them, do so.

[Back on track]
This is probably more for officials:

1. Inform the masses of any outbreaks

2. Locate a central location of main 'attacks' and track them
= Zombies, like sheep, will follow other zombies in hopes of stealing 'kills' for themselves (not like sheep). Because of this, it should be easy to track a whole horde's movements to see what attracts the majority of them.
= Hell, see if someone will be brave enough to attach loud noisy objects like bells and air horns to zombies they see, and then run for it. Kind of herd them together. All these football players and sports people who get paid to run? There we go, I found a job for them. Zombie herders.

3. a. If they are slow zombies, lure them to a construction zone and start herding them into piles using bulldozers. Then they can be burned and whatever you see fit.

3. b. If they are fast zombies, such as those that have 'the rage' like in 28 Days Later, slow them down. How fast does concrete dry? Zombies don't climb buildings, take them down the street and have them step in some fresh concrete. It'll slow them down because of the weight of the wet concrete. muahaha

I'm still working on the plan myself. When it comes to me, it will be posted for whoever to read. Of course, I'm open to suggestions or other tidbits of information.

What do you mean life lessons?

Horror movies teach us lessons about how to survive in life or death situations. Throughout this informative blog there will be tips and suggestions outlined from horror movies on how to survive and maintain yourself and possibly others in certain situations.

I believe in 'natural selection' as much as any horror movie shows. The stupid, despite being lucky for a short time, usually end up not surviving. . .you know, dead. All of a sudden one day while watching George Romero's Night of the Living Dead I decided that I wanted to know what I would do if there was an onslaught of zombies/stinkers/stenches running amuck. And if I suddenly ended up with stupid people. . .how would I make them last so that they could be sacrificed at opportune moments to save a group of people? It seemed like a good time to think of such things, what with zombies as popular as they are.

Speaking of which, who doesn't have a zombie blog? What movie these days doesn't have zombies in them in some form or another? Zombie's have been around for a long time in the movies. But, I won't get into history, I will just blab. Also, I will not be reviewing movies to such an extent as other people are already doing, that's not my thing. I like 'facts' if you will. The little tidbits that make you ask yourself. . .would that actually work?

This shall be the mythbusters for horror movies soo. . .gorebusters. HA This will be mostly zombie-themed for the time being because that's what movies I am watching, video games I've been playing, comic books I've been reading, and weapons for the coming apocalypse that I've been stocking up for...but in the long run, it will be divided into sections of different types of horror movies, of course. There are a lot of good ones that don't have zombies in it. I'm serious. Go look them up, classics. If you haven't, watch the Aliens series, at least. Brilliant disturbed minds come up with these plots and gore!! APPRECIATE!! It is healthy to scare yourself shitless once in awhile.

Next time. . .why are you tripping while running in the woods? DON'T FALL WOMAN, GET UP!
